  • It really depends on your pet’s personality and your preferences—but for many pets, in-home care is the most comfortable option.

With a pet sitter, your pets get to stay in their own home, stick to their normal routine, and avoid the stress that can come with new environments, unfamiliar animals, and loud boarding facilities. This is especially helpful for anxious pets, senior pets, or those with special needs. You also get peace of mind knowing your home is being looked after while you’re away.

Boarding facilities can be a great fit for very social dogs who enjoy being around other animals and thrive in a more active, structured environment. However, they often come with set schedules and less one-on-one attention.

In-home pet sitting offers a more personalized experience—your pets get dedicated care, attention, and love in a space where they already feel safe.

If your goal is to keep your pets happy, relaxed, and on their normal routine while you’re away, pet sitting is often the better choice.

  • Even if you’re home most of the day, regular walks are still essential for your dog’s overall health and happiness.

Walks aren’t just about bathroom breaks—they provide mental stimulation, physical exercise, and a chance for your dog to explore the world. New smells, sights, and sounds keep their brain engaged and help prevent boredom.

Without enough activity, many dogs can develop unwanted behaviors like excessive barking, chewing, pacing, or restlessness. Regular walks help burn off that extra energy and keep your dog more relaxed at home.

Walks also support physical health by maintaining a healthy weight, improving joint mobility, and promoting better sleep. Plus, they’re a great way to reinforce good leash manners and build confidence.

Even with a loving owner at home, it can be hard to consistently provide the level of exercise your dog truly needs—especially with busy schedules, work-from-home demands, or unpredictable days.

Regular walks help your dog stay balanced, happy, and well-behaved—and that benefits both of you.

Need a helping hand keeping your dog active? I’d love to help—reach out to schedule regular walks that fit your routine!

  • The main difference comes down to how much time your pet gets with me and the level of care they need.

Drop-in visits are shorter, scheduled visits throughout the day. During each visit, I’ll handle things like feeding, potty breaks, walks, medication (if needed), and of course some love and attention. This option can work well for more independent pets who are comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time.

All-day care with/without overnight sitting is a much more involved, in-home experience. I spend extended time in your home throughout the day and there is the option to stay overnight, so your pet has consistent companionship, care, and supervision. This is ideal for puppies, senior pets, pets with anxiety, or any pet that thrives on routine and doesn’t do well being left alone.

While both options are available, I generally recommend all-day care with/without overnight sitting whenever possible. It provides a more consistent routine, reduces stress and anxiety, and allows me to give your pet more attention, monitoring, and companionship throughout the day and night. Most pets are noticeably happier and more relaxed with this level of care.

  • Detailed instructions help me give your pets the best possible care and keep everything running smoothly while you’re away.

Here’s what’s most helpful to include:

    🐾 Feeding Routine
What and how much to feed, feeding times, treats allowed, and any food sensitivities or restrictions.

    🐾 Potty & Walk Schedule
How often your pet goes out, preferred walking routes, and any leash or behavior notes.

    🐾 Medications & Health Needs
Exact instructions for medications (dosage, timing, and how to give them), plus any medical conditions or things I should watch for.

    🐾 Daily Routine & Personality
Your pet’s habits, energy level, triggers, fears, and what helps them feel comfortable (for example: nervous around strangers or loves belly rubs before bed).

    🐾 Home Details
Where to find food, leashes, cleaning supplies, litter, etc., plus WiFi info if needed and any home routines (lights, mail, trash day).

    🐾 Emergency Contacts
Your preferred vet, emergency vet, and a reliable emergency contact who will be in town while you’re away, knows they are listed, and is available if needed. This is very important in case of urgent situations when you can’t be reached.

    🐾 Security & Access Info
Alarm codes, lockbox details, or anything important for entering and securing your home.

The more detailed you can be, the better—it helps me stick closely to your pet’s normal routine and keeps them happy and stress-free.

Don’t worry if you’re not sure where to start—I’ll guide you through everything during your meet & greet to make sure nothing is missed!

  • Hiring a professional pet sitter who is insured and bonded protects you, your home, and your pets—it’s one of the most important things to look for when choosing care.

Insurance provides coverage in case something unexpected happens, such as an accidental injury, property damage, or a pet-related incident. While these situations are rare, having proper insurance means you’re not left handling the cost or stress on your own.

Bonding adds another layer of protection for you as a homeowner. It helps safeguard against things like theft or dishonesty, giving you extra peace of mind when someone is entering your home.

Beyond protection, being insured and bonded is also a sign of professionalism. It shows that your pet sitter takes their business seriously, is prepared for the unexpected, and is committed to providing responsible, trustworthy care.

When you hire a professional, you’re not just paying for someone to “check in”—you’re investing in reliability, accountability, and peace of mind while you’re away.

Choosing an insured and bonded pet sitter means you can fully relax knowing your pets and your home are in safe, professional hands.

  • Choosing the right pet sitter is a big decision—you’re trusting someone with your pets and your home. Asking the right questions can help you feel confident you’ve found the best fit.

Here are some important questions to ask:

    Are you insured and bonded?
This protects you, your home, and your pets in case of unexpected situations.

    What experience do you have?
Ask about their background, how long they’ve been pet sitting, and if they’ve worked with pets similar to yours (including age, behavior, or medical needs).

    What services do you offer?
Make sure they provide exactly what you need—whether that’s drop-in visits, dog walking, or all-day/overnight care.

    How do you handle emergencies?
A professional sitter should have a clear plan and be comfortable handling urgent situations.

Will my pet get one-on-one attention?
It’s important to know how much time your pet will actually receive during visits or stays.

    How will I receive updates?
Ask if they provide photos, messages, or visit summaries so you can stay connected while you’re away.

Can we do a meet & greet first?
This is key! It gives you and your pet a chance to get comfortable and make sure it’s a good fit.

Are you comfortable with my pet’s specific needs?
Whether it’s medications, special routines, or behavioral quirks, your sitter should feel confident handling them.

At the end of the day, you should feel completely comfortable, informed, and confident in your choice.

If you’re looking for reliable, experienced, and personalized care, I’d love to chat—reach out to schedule your meet & greet and see if we’re the right fit!
